Born in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, Zahara, whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana, is a South African singer-songwriter. She was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Nokhaya and Mlamli Mkutukana. Bulelwa Mkutukana is the sixth of seven children and showed a love for singing at the age of 6.
She first attracted more attention when she was named a singer at the Phumlani Sunday School Choir. Its stage name means “blooming flower”; When she was a child, she was known by the nickname “Espinacas.”
In July 2014, Zahar’s younger brother was killed in East London. According to Zahara, she went through a period of depression after her death.

Zahara can be considered a singer, songwriter, poet, recording artist, performer. Her career began when she was seen on the streets of East London, singing TK Nciza from TS TS Records, who eventually signed her on her label.
Her music has been described as a fusion of styles popularized by Tracy Chapman and India.Arie. She sings in her mother tongue, Xhosa, as well as in English, and freely classifies her music as “Afrosoul”.
In 2011, Zahara released their first album called Loliwe. In 72 hours, the collection was sold off. 19 days later, the album reached double-platinum status in South Africa, smashing 100,000 sales, making it another piece of music after Brenda Fassie, also of Xhosa origin, reached this number in record time.
Zahara released her first live DVD featuring X-Factor participant USA LeRoy Bell, and by standards set by the South African audio industry, the DVD reached platinum in one day.
In 2012, Nelson Mandela invited her to her home for a private concert by the bed. She composed a song called “Nelson Mandela” in her honor and released it in EP. Zahara signed with Warner Music South Africa in 2017 and released Mgodi, his fourth studio album. The album went gold after just six hours.
