How To Make South African Milk Tart With Ease

An easy way to make a classic South African milk tart! Step by step, it’s not as scary as it sounds!

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 125 g butter
  • a pinch of salt

  • 4 ½ cup milk
  • 2 lice tablespoons cornflour
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 ½ tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • a large tablespoon of butter

  • Whisk butter and sugar well and add the egg before whisking well.
  • Add all other ingredients, making a firm paste.
  • Press into one or two pie pan/round pans.
  • Bake blindly for 15 minutes at 180 ° C (use wax to coat the dough and place the dry beans/rice on paper to roll out the dough). Then take out the paper and beans/rice and cook for another 5 minutes until lightly browned.

  • Boil the milk gently.
  • Whisk eggs well, then add sugar, flour, cornflour, and salt.
  • Stir well.
  • Pour the boiling milk into the mixture and mix well.
  • Return to heat and stir for 10-12 minutes over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
  • Add the vanilla butter and essence and mix, then pour in the cooked crust.
  • Leave in the refrigerator (you no longer have to cook the tart)
  • Sprinkle with cinnamon to decorate.
