How To Prepare Ogbonno Soup with these Recipe

Ogbono soup is a delicious soup that many tribes in Nigeria enjoy. It is also called Ogbolo and is sometimes supplemented with leafy vegetables.


  • 3 cups of stock
  • 1kg of meat
  • 1 cup pumpkin leaf or Bitterleaf, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Ogbono, ground
  • 400g of dried fish
  • 400g Stockfish
  • 200g kpomo, softened
  • 1 cup crayfish, ground
  • 2 cups shelled periwinkle
  • 8 chilli pepper to taste
  • 2 seasoning cubes
  • 1 cup of palm oil
  • 1 onion
  • Salt to taste


  1. Wash all ingredients properly
  2. Season and cook the meat to get the broth.
  3. When the meat is almost soft, add the stockfish and kpomo
  4. In another pot, cook the periwinkle in saltwater and wash it thoroughly.
  5. Add about 6 cups of water when the stockfish, meat, and kpomo soften.
  6. Bring to a boil
  7. Add ogbono, periwinkles, and palm oil and cook for about 5 minutes.
  8. Add chopped bitter leaf or pumpkin leaf, crayfish, and seasoning cubes.
  9. Cook for another 3 minutes and add salt to taste.
