Black PR and Media Strategist Recognized For Work in Case Against R. Kelly

Meet Dontaye Carter, founder of Carter Media Group (CMG). He has received international recognition for his firm’s work in raising awareness about the alleged crimes committed by singer Robert Sylvester Kelly, also known as R. Kelly.

Based in Atlanta, his full-service Public Relations and Media Strategy Firm works with attorneys to tell the stories of their clients, was presented with three prestigious awards during the 26th Annual Communicators Awards by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA).

Carter’s firm worked with the Law Office of Gerald A. Griggs to breakdown the case on every significant international platform. Through an exhaustive investigation, Attorney Griggs found evidence such as plane tickets and emails that verified that some of the women were underage when they allegedly became sexually involved with Kelly.

Attorney Griggs’ work was featured in Time Magazine, New York Times, BBC, Lifetime, Good Morning America, and many other publications and media outlets. As a result of the work, Kelly was indicted on six federal and state indictments. His bond was denied. Currently, he awaits trial.

“We are in an age of accountability. These three awards speak to our ability to take the facts in an attorney’s case and share the information in a way that’s easily consumed by their target audience. Our teams work hard to find the best ways to share each case’s details on the most suitable media platforms and in a way that drives growth for our clients’ firms. For Attorney Griggs, the success led to 500 new clients and counting,” said Carter. “It is humbling to receive such high praise for work that we are passionate about, and we thank AIVA and their team for this esteemed honor.”

The Communicator Awards is an invitation-only group consisting of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, communications, advertising, creative, and marketing firms. Their members include Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, and MTV Networks. Previous winners include ESPN Films, Forbes Media, and Amazon.

Carter launched his firm in 2017, and once led the PR department in the Fulton County DA’s office. For ten years before the DA’s Office, he worked in television news as an Executive Producer, Anchor, and Reporter across the Southeast and Midwest. His career includes working in Atlanta at CBS46 and 11Alive in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at FOX23, and in Tallahassee, Florida, at WCTV.
