How to Prepare Onunu And Fresh Fish Sauce With This Simple Recipe

Onunu is a classic dish between the Ijaws and kalabari in rivers and the state of Bayelsa in the south-south Nigeria.
It is made with an overripe plantation and yam boiled and pounded together, mixed with palm oil. It is usually eaten with fresh fish sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized yam
  • Ripe plantain
  • spoon of palm oil
  • Salt to taste
For the sauce:
  • Fresh fish
  • pepper and tomato puree
  • seasoning

Instructions

  1. Peel the yam, cut it into small pieces, and bring to boil.
  2. Peel the plantain, slice it into pieces, and add to the yam.
  3. Add salt when the yam and banana are almost cooked.
  4. When you’re done, you start pounding
  5. Add a little palm oil and stir.
  6. Wrap in small pieces and serve with fish sauce
