Christiano Ronaldo wasn’t the first to score in eight straight major tournaments, Asamoah Gyan of Ghana has scored in Nine
While it was reported that Christiano Ronaldo was the first to achieve the feat, and had become the first man to score at eight successive major tournaments.

Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan had gone one better and scored in nine major tournaments in a row.

On the day, this claim was made, Gyan went on Twitter and refuted it, saying.
“People disregard my achievements in the World Cup history, but I want the whole world to know that I have not been given the fair shake, but records will remain forever.”
The Ghanaian striker has scored in 9 major tournaments, finding the target at three World Cups and six African Nations Cup tournaments.
His first goal came against the Czech Republic at the 2006 World Cup, before following that up with the first goal of the African Nations Cup in 2008, against Guinea. Three more goals followed at AFCON 2010, including the winner against Nigeria in the semifinals. Gyan then netted three goals at the World Cup in 2010, although he was left heartbroken in the quarterfinals after missing a last-minute penalty against Uruguay that would have sent Ghana to the semis.
Christiano Ronaldo, Asamoah Gyan
The then Real Madrid, but now Juventus star scored a hat-trick for Portugal against Spain – the eighth straight major tournament he has netted in – but that isn’t an all-time high was suggested that he is the first man to have achieved such a feat, but that statistics only took into account World Cups, European Championships and Copa Americas, With the African Cup of Nations not taken into consideration, which doesn’t settle well because there’s no difference between the European championship, the Copa America and the African cup of the nation.
In all, Ronaldo beats the former Sunderland man in all international goals, sitting some way clear of that tally on 99. At the same time, Gyan manages 51 with Iran legend Ali Daei – on 109 – the only man to have found the target on more occasions.
But that doesn’t take Asamoah gyan’s credit as the first player to score in nine straight major tournaments.
