24-Year Old Cancer Survivor Turned Entrepreneur Launches Mobile Cancer Screening App

Meet Shamim Nabuuma Kaliisa, a 24-year old social entrepreneur from Uganda is the mastermind behind a popular cancer screening app that is helping thousands of women in various countries throughout Africa. A cancer survivor herself, her company offers innovative artificial intelligence-guided E-Oncology services to diagnose cervical and breast cancer. Both of these types of cancers, if detected and treated early, can save a person’s life. 

When she was a young girl, Shamim‘s mom sadly died from cervical cancer. Having to deal with that and her personal experience as a cancer survivor has shaped her career path. “I am determined to not only exist but also thrive and help others thrive,” she says.

 As the CEO and founder of Chil AI Lab, Shamim has proven herself to be a promising innovator in medicine and says that her company was founded out of both passion and personal experience.


 She is so good at what she does that the locals call her “mama cancer.” Her company has been featured on CNBC Africa and was recognized as one of the top 10 artificial intelligence companies founded in Africa by Google for Start-ups. She has also been named one of Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30.
