Biography

John Adedayo Bamidele Adegboyega was born on March 17, 1992, in the Peckham district of London. His parents are of Nigerian origin. His father, Samson Adegboyega, is a Pentecostal pastor while his mother is a social worker.

He received his first primary education at Oliver Goldsmith Primary School in London, Great Britain. He got his first role in elementary school when he was chosen to play Leopard in the drama. His ascension to stardom came at the age of 9 when Teresa Early, artistic director of the Peckham Theater, noticed him.

In 2003 John Boyega began his secondary studies at Westminster City School, where he participated in various school productions. Between 2008 and 2010, he attended South Thames College on the Wandsworth campus to obtain a National Diploma in Performing Arts.

Boyega enrolled at the University of Greenwich to study film studies and media writing but withdrew to focus on theater. He trained with the Identity School of Acting in London and became a patron of its Los Angeles branch when it opened in 2018.

Career

Before being offered a role in the science fiction comedy film’ Attack on the Block, ‘John Boyega was a trainer at Identity School Acting, Hackney, and made six appearances at the National Theater and Tricycle Theater in 2011. That same year, he got another role in the movie “Junkhearts”, where he played as a drug dealer in the criminal arms trade.

In March 2012, Boyega participated in the film adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s book “Half of the Yellow Sun”. On April 29, 2014, it was confirmed that Boyega was the main character in the movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

In 2017 Boyega starred in the Detroit riots of 1967 in Kathryn Bigelow’s film. The same year, he assumed the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In November 2018, it was announced that Boyega would star alongside Letitia Wright in the new adaptation of Hold Back the Stars. Boyega would also appear in the next mini-series “Small Ax” by Steve McQueen.
